Due to the setbacks presented by COVID-19, our annual
fundraisers that were planned for the 2020 and 2021 school year cannot take
place. These unexpected changes in our fundraising plans are
significantly impacting our budget for the 2020-2021 band and guard
seasons.
For example, we typically raise between $30,000 and $50,000
each year from our Lone Star Preview Marching Contest. We budgeted
$30,000 for this event but we cannot hold it this year due to the
pandemic. That's $30,000 we are in the hole before the school year even
gets off and rolling. We were not able to have our Spring Market this
past spring, effectively losing between $6,000 and $8,000 from that
event. At this time, we do not know if that event will take place this
year either. We have a mattress fundraiser that we do not know if we can
host, which typically raises an average of $10,000 each year. That
fundraiser is also on hold. We also normally have several spirit nights
throughout the year when people get together at restaurants, which also cannot
take place as frequently or with as much participation as normal. These
are a few examples of events that we budgeted in our financial plans that we
must find ways to make up for in other ways this year.
Since most, if not all, of our planned fundraising events
will not be able to be executed in the same fashion that we have before, WE
NEED YOUR HELP to continue to provide powerful and enjoyable educational
experiences for our band and guard members! Though members' families
shoulder a significant portion of each year's costs, between $50,000 and
$75,000 each year come from fundraising of some kind., effectively relieving
our band families of a significant amount of money from being further added to
their annual membership dues. If we do not make up for these budgeted
amounts through fundraisers then we must go back and ask our parents to make
more payments to help sustain the program. We would obviously like to
avoid having to make that request, especially during a time when many have lost
their jobs, been cut back on hours, or have suffered other unforeseen financial
hardships.
As a result, we are launching a virtual fundraising
campaign to support the wonderful members and families of The Woodlands High
School Band!
We hope that you will help us in promoting this virtual
fundraising event in an effort to generate financial support from OUTSIDE of
our TWHS Band Family. It will be one of the easiest fundraisers you've
ever participated in with a significant impact on our band and guard program!
